Earth States™

The Colour & Design Alignment Method
for Intentional Interiors
Where colour, space & self align

An approach to designing from within

Every offering I create is guided by Earth States™—my design methodology combining colour psychology, emotional aesthetics, and biophilic principles to create homes that support wellbeing and personal connection. It considers not just how a space looks, but how it feels, supports, and reflects you.

It offers a way of approaching colour and interiors through how you naturally respond to your environment and move through the world—and how this is revealed through your relationship with colour and space, and vice versa.

It moves beyond purely visual decisions and is based on the premise that whilst we share some universal responses to colour, our overall experience is shaped by biology, psychology, culture, and context—meaning each person responds to colour in their own way.

We often hear the term “neutral colour” in interior design, yet there is no such thing as a truly neutral colour. Every colour—whether subtle or bold—affects how you feel, think, and behave within your home. What is often called “neutral” is simply quieter or less dominant, but it still shapes the atmosphere, energy and emotional resonance of a space.

Rather than defaulting to what feels safe, my Earth States approach begins by uncovering your natural colour family and design style—the colours, shapes, textures and all the design elements you instinctively respond to.

Once your natural colour family is established, your colour palette is refined through my Colour Sweet Spot Method™, creating a balanced and aligned outcome. In turn, your design style preferences can also be naturally aligned, bringing a fresh sense of clarity and design direction.

Through this lens, colour and interiors become a tool for wellbeing—support your mood, energy, and sense of ease, while allowing for genuine self-expression.

It’s a way of designing homes that reflect not only how you want them to look, but how you want them to feel and function in everyday life.

Colour is not just seen—it is felt

Colour is not simply visual—it is experiential.

It shapes how we feel within a space, often more than we realise.

Have you ever noticed how you’re drawn to certain colours, while others leave you feeling unsettled?
Or why one space feels immediately comfortable, while another—though beautifully designed—never quite does?

These responses aren’t random. They reflect deeper patterns in how we relate to our environment.

And yet, colour is so often reduced to an aesthetic decision—based on what looks right, or what feels safe.

A shift in perspective

My work didn’t begin this way.

Like many designers, I started intuitively—choosing colours I was drawn to and trusting they would work. Over time I began to notice the limitations of that approach.

What felt right to me didn’t always feel right for the client.
A space could look resolved, but not feel quite right to live in.

Over time, this led me to explore and study colour and design psychology more deeply, including the work of Karen Haller FRSA. Her Advanced Applied Colour & Design Psychology course, which includes her research into the emotional and behavioural impact of colour, reshaped my understanding of how it is experienced—and how it can be applied with intention.

What I had once approached visually, I began to understand experientially.

How Earth States™ works

Through conversation, skilled elicitation and observation, I come to understand how you naturally respond to your environment—not just within your home, but in the way you move through the world.

Patterns begin to emerge. These reflect what I call your Earth State—a way of understanding how you experience life, everyday situations, space, and colour, and in turn, the interiors you most naturally respond to.

Each Earth State is equal. None is better than another.
What matters is recognising the one that feels most true to you.

The outcome: a space that feels like you

From this a colour palette and design style begins to take shape that feels instinctively right—not only visually, but emotionally.

Each project then unfolds through refined process—shaped by light, colour nuance, carefully considered design elements and context—so that colour and design support the way you live within your space.

What emerges is not just a cohesive interior, but one that feels natural to be in—calm, supportive, and entirely your own.

A final thought

I don’t choose colours for your home.
I reveal the ones that already belong to you.

Because the right colours don’t simply transform a space—
they allow you to feel held, and at home within it.

Colour, aligned to your nature.

How it Unfolds

A calm, guided process—bringing clarity from first thoughts through to a home that feels entirely your own.

1. The First Conversation

Every project begins with a thoughtful exchange—a chance to understand where you are, how you live, and what no longer feels quite right.

There’s no expectation to have everything figured out. This is simply the starting point—a gentle shift towards something more aligned.

2. Understanding Your Home

We take a deeper look at your space—
how it flows, how it functions, and how it supports your everyday life.

Through careful observation and conversation, we begin to uncover opportunities—bringing clarity to what’s possible, and what your home truly needs next.

3. Defining the Direction

With a clear understanding in place,
we shape the most appropriate way forward.

Whether through a focused consultation or a more comprehensive design experience,
everything is aligned with your pace and the level of support you need.

4. The Design Unfolds

From here, your home begins its evolution.

Ideas take shape with clarity and intention.
Each decision is thoughtfully resolved—
from spatial planning and colour to materials, lighting, and the finer details.

The process feels calm, collaborative, and assured—resulting in a home that not only looks beautiful, but feels deeply right.

A considered approach—so the experience feels as good as the outcome.

  • We often hear the term “neutral colour” when talking about interior design, but there is no such thing as a neutral colour in interiors—every colour, tone, shade, and tint has a positive or negative effect on how you feel, think, and behave in your home. The answer to this phenomenon is to start designing your home by first uncovering your natural colour family and then refining your palette through my Colour Sweet Spot Method™

  • When a space doesn’t feel quite right, it is often the colour speaking—quietly, but persistently.

  • Sometimes the unease you feel in a space isn’t obvious—just a subtle sense that something is off.

  • Many homes look beautiful, but few truly support how you want to feel.

  • You may not always notice it consciously, but colour shapes how you feel the moment you walk into a room.

  • When colour is misaligned, a space can feel unsettled—even when everything else is “right.”

  • The difference between a room that looks right and one that feels right is often colour—chosen with care.

  • This isn’t about choosing colours you like. It’s about choosing colours that work for you.

  • A well-considered palette doesn’t just elevate a space— it changes your experience of living in it.

  • The right palette doesn’t shout for attention—it allows you to soften, think clearly, and feel at ease.

  • A considered use of colour can change how you move through your home—more calmly, more intuitively, more like yourself.

  • The most transformative changes are often the quietest— a shift in tone, a softening, a sense of balance restored.

  • When colour is chosen consciously, your home begins to feel less contrived… and more like you.

  • Colour has the ability to bring a home back into alignment— with you, your life, and how you want to live now.

  • If your home no longer feels like it reflects you, the answer is rarely more—it’s often different.

  • You don’t need to start again. You need to realign what’s already there. Colour is often the first shift.

  • Colour, chosen consciously, has the power to change not just your home—but how you feel within it.

  • Often, it’s not about changing everything—just understanding what’s no longer working, and approaching the space as a whole.

  • The way a room feels begins with colour.

  • Our homes hold us more fully when they evolve with us.

  • Colour isn’t the finishing touch. It’s where everything begins.
